The American economy is up in flames yet the nabobs on Capitol Hill play the fiddle seemingly impervious to the fact that over 9% of the American population is presently unemployed, which translates to 28,118,790 Americans out of work. For those not acquainted with numbers, 28 million of your countrymen are on the dole, food stamps et. al, and this is the sole superpower of the world. Here are some startling facts how politics across the divide can shoot a booming economy.

Occupy Wall Street-An Arab Spring in America?

Presidential hopefuls and the President better watch out, Occupy Wall Street has been ongoing for over two months and shows no signs of letting up. For those fat cats and snooty class-conscious glitterati living fabled lives in the Big Apple, the capital and elsewhere in America, beware of taking the poor and the dispossessed for granted.

The images beaming down on prime time television are indeed distressing. For the first time since the race riots, the police in New York have used riot gear blatantly on unarmed protestors. The impression that one gets on watching the TV is that the champions of democracy who preach democracy to the rest of the world and have chided Arab states for suppressing democratic protests are themselves doing it to their own people.

Why the International Criminal Court is a Bad Idea

Thank God America never signed the Rome Statute 1998 that set up the International Criminal Court in 2002 as this supra-national entity directly threatens the sovereignty and sovereign actions of nation-states. The ICC was set up to investigate war crimes, allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity. The court has been generally an all-European affair that has prosecuted African dictators and despots ranging from Uganda, Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan, Kenya, Darfur to name a few. American objections to the ICC which are echoed by China, India, Russia, Israel, Iran and Pakistan is that the ICC mandate extends to even questioning legitimate action taken by security forces in defense of humanity.

If the American voter think that the 2012 elections can fix the economy, forget it, that is not going to happen irrespective of who wins the Presidential sweepstakes. No sir, no Obama plan, no 9-9-9 a la Cain is going to save the relentless march of job losses. The only ones who can save America are American people themselves. Here are some simple steps to get out of debt and off nerve pills.
Got a SUV? Lose it, buy a fuel efficient hatchback does not matter if it is Japanese, it will save hundreds of dollars in fuel, and also help bring down the fuel bill at the federal level. Drive every day to work? Change that; carpool or take a tube, great savings on fuel bill and that would add some dollars to the cash strapped metro. Better still, invest in a bike, save money and accrue health benefits.
