The Obama $447 billion employment plan has many opponents predictably from the Republicans but also from within his own party. The reasons are not too difficult to fathom, for the Obama plan calls for some sacrifice from all sections of the American populace and that would mean trouble for those seeking re-election. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers towards fashioning an economic revival.
If you ask any true died-in-the-wool (pun intended) economist, the western concept of a social welfare state makes no economic sense at all. The whole idea of a free market system that is so dear to American ideology is based on the fact that when you want to sell you must make profit. When you pay someone, he must produce productive work that will lead to profits. So how can you pay someone for not working? In pure economic terms, the social welfare system is a dead loss, plain and simple.
